BBC Studios and China’s Orient International Holding Shanghai Foreign Trade Co., Ltd have signed a co-production and co-distribution agreement to create "Asia: Wildlife at the Extremes", a giant screen adaptation of the acclaimed BBC natural history series Asia.

The original Asia series captivated audiences with breathtaking journeys across vast deserts, rich seas, and towering mountains, showcasing the incredible animals that have adapted to survive in the continent’s harshest environments, where life is often pushed to the limit.

From the freezing peaks of the Himalayas to the turbulent waves of the Indian Ocean and the arid deserts of Central Asia, the series featured extraordinary footage of nature in some of the world’s most challenging environments. Filmmakers captured stunning sights, such as the red pandas of the Himalayas, the deadly sea bunny of the Pacific Ocean, and an unprecedented shark feeding frenzy, highlighting the intense struggle for survival faced by Asia’s incredible wildlife.

Now, adapted by the BBC Studios Natural History Unit, "Asia: Wildlife at the Extremes" will soon debut as an exciting 3D giant screen experience. Using cutting-edge cameras, the film will offer viewers an immersive look into Asia’s stunning wildlife and landscapes, available in either a 40-minute giant screen, IMAX, or CINITY version, or a 20-minute Dome version. BBC Studios and Orient International Holding Shanghai Foreign Trade Co., Ltd will co-distribute the film globally, with BBC Studios partnering with SK Films for distribution.

Jonny Keeling, Head of the Natural History Unit at BBC Studios, celebrated the deal:"We are excited to extend our decade-long partnership with Orient International into co-production. Asia was a beloved series in the UK, performed well in China, and around the world. We believe Asia: Wildlife at the Extremes, as a giant screen adaptation, will captivate even more audiences in China;" commented.

FInally, Mr. Wang Haitao, General Manager of Orient International Holding Shanghai Foreign Trade, added: “Together with BBC Studios, we’ve brought seven giant screen films to China’s science museums, providing immersive experiences for younger generations. We’re thrilled to partner with BBC Studios, whose innovative production and storytelling will bring the natural world to life on a giant screen," expressed.
