Beta’s royal drama "Maxima" (6x1h), produced by Millstreet Films, continues its rollout with sales to 50 territories, most recently Australia’s public broadcaster SBS, Denmark’s TV2, Sweden’s TV4, Finland’s MTV, Slovenia’s RTV, Estonia’s ERR, YES for Israel, as well as FOX Network for Slovenia, Croatia, Serbia, Bulgaria, Albania, Macedonia, and Bosnia and Herzegovina. Following the premiere at Canneseries, the first season broke records in its home turf on RTL Netherlands Streamer Videoland, achieved superb ratings on Italy’s Rai, Denmark’s TV2, and Spain’s Atresmedia, and ranked in the Top10 on HBO’s streamer MAX in Latin America for multiple weeks.
The second season will start shooting this year in the Netherlands, Belgium, Spain, and Austria. It follows Máxima from her wedding preparations up to the coronation ten years later, depicting her constant struggles between family dynamics at court and her career ambitions. Saskia Diesing and Joosje Duk return to direct season two. The scripts will be written by Rifka Lodeizen and Daan Gielis.
"Maxima" is produced by Rachel van Bommel of Millstreet Films, in co-production with FBO and Beta Film, with the support of the Dutch Film Fund Production Incentive, the Creative Europe MEDIA program, and the Belgian Tax Shelter. The series is based on the book "Máxima Zorreguieta: Motherland" by Marcia Luyten, published by De Bezige Bij.
