"A Taste for Murder"
BritBox confirms new original series "A Taste for Murder" produced by Eagle Eye Drama and in association with ITV Studios. The six-part crime procedural commences filming on location in Croatia and later in Italy and will premiere on BritBox in the U.S. and Canada.
Set amidst the steep cliffs and fast tides of Capri, "A Taste for Murder" features classic Italian cuisine as the main ingredient to each episode’s central murder mystery, revealing the power of food to foster connection, community, and healing after devastating loss.
Warren Brown ("The Responder") stars as DCI Joe Mottram, a star detective with the Metropolitan police. After a personal tragedy, he retreats to Capri with his daughter to stay with his Italian in-laws for the summer. Unsure how to face his own grief, let alone help heal his daughter’s broken heart, he quickly becomes immersed in the local murder cases on the island. Alongside Brown, it is Phyllis Logan ("Downton Abbey") as Elena Da Vinale, Cristiana Dell’Anna ("Cabrini") as Inspector Lara Sarrancino, Beau Gadsdon ("The Crown") as Angelica, Joe’s bright and knife-sharp teenage daughter from South London.
"A Taste for Murder" is created and written by Matt Baker ("Patience"). The series is directed by Jon Jones ("Hotel Portofino") and produced by Megan Ott ("House of the Dragon"). JoMcGrath, Walter Iuzzolino, and Carolina Giammetta are executive producers for Eagle Eye Drama, part of ITV Studios, with Robert Schildhouse, Stephen Nye, and Jess O’ Riordan executive producers for BritBox.
Eagle Eye Chief Creative Officer Jo McGrath said, “'A Taste For Murder' is an escapist detective series weaving intriguing crime cases with compelling family drama, all set against the beautiful Amalfi coastline. Cooking and food will play an important role in the show, reflecting the emotional dilemmas faced by our core characters, and helping the family at the heart of the series to heal past wounds. Featuring a standout cast, and some truly mouth-watering recipes, the show is set to be a delicious, irresistible treat for viewers.”
Creator Matt Baker said, “'A Taste for Murder' is as much a family drama as it is detective fiction, exploring the difficulties of maintaining loving relationships when coping with trauma and grief, alongside a series of outlandish murders that are very much the product of the beautiful Mediterranean island on which the series is set. Combining crime and cooking, as well as British ingenuity and Italian passion, it has been a genuine pleasure to write, and I can't wait to see the cast and crew bring it to life with the guidance and backing of Eagle Eye, BritBox and ITV Studios.”
BritBox President North America and General Manager, BritBox International Robert Schildhouse said, “'A Taste for Murder' is more than the standard crime procedural—Matt Baker and Eagle Eye Drama have crafted an innovative show that combines mystery, culture, and heart in a way that feels fresh and authentic. We’re proud to commission this series and can’t wait for BritBox audiences to sink their teeth into the clever writing, beautiful backdrops, and delectable recipes. Most importantly, 'A Taste for Murder' will inspire audiences to think about healing and connection in new ways.”
