“Wild Canadian Weather”
CBC & Radio-Canada Distribution, the international content licensing arm of Canada’s public broadcaster, has secured a raft of broadcast deals for their slate of factual programming. “We’re extremely proud of our award-winning lineup of factual content and are thrilled by the response we are getting from broadcasters around the world,” says Gwen Jones McCauley, Director, Global Distribution - Unscripted. “We are so excited that these extraordinary documentaries will be made available to a whole new group of viewers globally.”
SVT (Sweden) and Skyword Co.(China) picked up "Nature’s Cleanup Crew" (1x52) produced by Kensington Communications featuring the crafty critters who share the cities, from ants to vultures to opossums, and how they recycle the mountains of waste our consumer society leaves behind.
"First Animals" (1x52) has been sold to Mediaset (Italy), and SVT (Sweden). The doc, which is produced by Red Trillium Films Inc., tells the story of the Burgess Shale fossils that have rewritten the understanding of evolution.
"Wild Canadian Weather" (4x52) is produced by River Road Films and explores extreme weather events in one of the most intense and challenging climates on the planet. The title was sold to Bomanbridge Media (Asia-Pacific), SVT (Sweden) with a multi-territory deal for Viasat World for CEE, Russia and CIS, Baltics, and Scandinavia. The distributor previously secured major global sales across eighteen territories on "Wild Canadian Year" (4x52) from the same production team.
Climate change special "Rebellion" (1x52) (produced by Grand Passage Media Inc.), starring Greta Thunberg, Jane Fonda, and David Attenborough, heads to Mediawan Thematics (France) and SIC (Portugal).
"The Covid Cruise" (1x52) (produced by Blue Pearl Productions) which looks back at the beginning of the pandemic and investigates the science behind outbreaks on major cruise lines, has been sold to PBS America (UK & Ireland) and Bell Media (French Canada).
Finally, PBS/POV (US), Al Jazeera (MENA), CNEX (Taiwan) and Sky Arts (New Zealand) have licensed the TIFF-selected short doc "Sing Me A Lullaby" (1x29) (produced by Golden Nugget Productions). The short, document’s filmmaker Tiffany Hsiung's efforts to locate and reconnect with her mother's birth family in Taiwan.
