Dynamic Television's popular Danish crime series "The Sommerdahl Murders" has been renewed for a fourth season. Additionally, Acorn TV has picked up season 3 for the U.S. “We continue to be very proud of how strongly The Sommerdahl Murders performs for our partners globally,” said Daniel March and Klaus Zimmermann, Managing Partners, Dynamic Television. “The renewal is the direct result of the incredible talent and passion the cast and crew continually deliver each and every season.”
Based on Anna Grue’s bestselling book franchise, the four-part Nordic drama is a co-production between Dynamic Television, ZDF, ndF, Sequoia Global Alliance, and Danish broadcaster TV2. Season 4 began production this May and is expected to premier March 2023. The title is created by Lolita Bellstar, who serves as head writer alongside Lars K. Andersen. The series is produced by Danish production company Sequoia Global Alliance. Executive Producers are Janni Helleskov of Sequoia Global Alliance, Matthias Walther from ndF, and Daniel March and Klaus Zimmermann of Dynamic Television. Annika Appelin is a Swedish director with several years of experience working in the film industry including directing the Swedish TV-Series Huss (2021) and the feature film Tuesday Club (2021).
The second season was the third most screened Danish TV-series all year in Denmark and had more viewers than all the TV-shows from the national broadcaster DR. In the meantime, it continuously generated high ratings for TV4, TV2 and ZDF. For the fourth season, Rumle Hammerich and Annika Appelin are set to direct. Rumle is an experienced Danish film director and screenwriter haven written and directed many award-winning film and TV series, including Young Andersen, who won an Emmy for best foreign TV movie, Borgen, Headhunter, The Eagle and Taxa. He recently directed several episodes of the third and fourth season of the successful Danish-Swedish TV series, The Bridge. Rumle directed some episodes of the third season of The Sommerdahl Murders.
Set in Helsingør, the show is set in a picturesque town on the Danish coastline, each episode revolves around an intriguing, perfidious murder investigation solved by Dan Sommerdahl and his best friend Detective Superintendent Flemming Torp. Having sold over 750,000 books, Anna Grue is a regular on Denmark’s bestseller lists and is one of the most successful crime fiction authors in Scandinavia. Her Dan Sommerdahl crime series have been published throughout Europe, earning particular great success in Germany and France. Conceived as a twelve-part book series, eight books have been published thus far.
