Espresso Media International have closed a major 16 title package deal with Japan’s NHK for their SVOD service, including the new John Lennon and Yoko Ono documentary "Daytime Revolution" (1x108/ 2x52), the latest production from award-winning director, Erik Nelson. The feature doc tells the story of one week in 1972 when the iconic couple took over The Mike Douglas Show, shocking mainstream audiences with their frank discussions of everything from sex to police violence and with appearances from radical figures including Black Panther, Bobby Seale. These controversial conversations, their live music and behind-the-scenes-madness, are all restored and reconstructed in Nelson’s film.

David Hooper, Managing Director of Espresso comments: “We are very pleased to be building on our relationship with NHK with this package for their SVOD service. This provides further choice of programming in the Asian market, which we hope to be able to supply more titles for in the future.”

Other highlights in this package include "JFK: 24 Hours That Changed the World" (1x45), "Moscow’s Dirty Gold Rush" (1x56) and the AIPS award-winning documentary "Category: Woman" (1x76 / 1x58). Directed by Emmy-nominated director and former Olympian, Phyllis Ellis, it delves into the highly contentious issue of sex verification in sports, focusing on four female athletes from the Global South who have endured invasive medical scrutiny, highlighting the intersection of racism, sexism, and the policing of women's bodies in athletics.

Additional titles include "Kaepernick & America" (1x52) which explores the former NFL player turned activist, his symbolic protest, and its lasting impact, as well as "A Crack in the Mountain" (1x52), which documents a pivotal moment in Vietnam’s environmental activism history. New AI is explored in depth in "Cyborg Society" (1x59), a doc fronted by Nina Schick, geo-political adviser and acclaimed author of ‘Deep Fakes’, who warns that our sudden interaction with AI is “no longer (simply) technological innovation” but “something new entirely” which “we barely have the vocabulary to conceptualise” with the power to permanently alter our relationship to identity, truth and reality.

Diverse topics from space exploration to geopolitics are all touched on across the package deal, aligning with NHK's commitment to offering thought-provoking and globally relevant programming.
