FX has announced it will adapt the Danish drama "Cry Wolf" into an English-language limited series, enlisting a high-profile team that includes Oscar winners Olivia Colman and Brie Larson, with Emmy winner Sarah Treem as writer and showrunner. The eight-episode series is produced by FX Productions in association with Colman’s South of the River banner and is slated to stream on Hulu.
John Landgraf, chairman of FX Content & FX Productions, said in a statement: “’Cry Wolf’ is a powerful, timely story that resonated deeply with audiences in Denmark, and we believe it will do the same here. We’re proud to bring together a creative team of the highest caliber in Olivia, Brie, and Sarah, who each have a remarkable ability to deliver compelling, nuanced storytelling.”
Sarah Treem, best known for "The Affair" and "In Treatment," added: “This story asks profound questions about trust, trauma, and whose voices we believe. It’s a privilege to work with such extraordinary partners to bring it to life for a wider audience.”
"Cry Wolf," originally produced by Denmark’s DR Drama and sold internationally by DR Sales, garnered widespread acclaim and sparked a national debate in Denmark over the credibility of children in abuse allegations. The original series was written by Maja Jul Larsen and achieved significant viewership and cultural resonance. FX’s version signals the network’s continued strategy of adapting strong European IPs into premium U.S. dramas, as noted in Broadcast International.
Olivia Colman and Brie Larson will both executive produce the series and are expected to star, though specific roles have not yet been confirmed. Colman’s South of the River, which she founded with her husband Ed Sinclair, is producing alongside FX Productions. This project further establishes South of the River as a serious player in scripted production following its recent success with "Landscapers" for HBO/Sky.
The series has no official release date yet but underscores FX and Hulu’s continued bet on prestige limited series to attract subscribers and awards attention. As the demand for high-end, globally sourced content rises, the adaptation of "Cry Wolf" positions FX at the forefront of networks leveraging international formats with proven storytelling appeal.
