The mysteries of “Codex 632” story will jump from the book pages to the screens in the first Globoplay, RTP, and SPi co-production. Inspired by the best seller by the Portuguese journalist José Rodrigues dos Santos, the series will consist of six 45-minute episodes. The news was announced in the event Conecta Fiction & Entertainment, which happened in Toledo, Spain.
“We are very happy to close a co-production with Portugal, a country that has so many historical ties with Brazil. We are sure that this will be the first of many co-productions we will make with the country. Globoplay is betting a lot on this partnership and believes that the public will be hooked on the story of this series, which is inspired by a work that has been so successful,” said Ana Carolina Lima, Head of Content at Globoplay.
Based on real historical documents, in “Codex 632,” Tomás de Noronha is a History professor at NOVA University Lisbon and an expert in cryptoanalysis and ancient languages hired to decipher an enigmatic message left by a historian in Rio de Janeiro. But the mystery proves to be even bigger, unexpectedly launching Tomás on the trail of the most closely guarded secret of the Discoveries: The true identity and mission of Christopher Columbus.
“This is an emblematic moment for the fiction in Portuguese language. At a time when co-productions are the great engine of audiovisual production worldwide, this first partnership between RTP, Globoplay and SPi will bring to life on screen the unique characters of one of the best-selling literary works by José Rodrigues dos Santos. “Codex 632” will bring together some of the best Portuguese and Brazilian actors and actresses of our time and will mark a particularly stimulating phase of audiovisual production in Brazil and Portugal,” commented José Fragoso, Head of RTP1.
Recording sessions for the series will start next July and will be divided between Portugal and Brazil, with the cities of Lisbon and Rio de Janeiro as settings. The adaptation of the book for the series is by Pedro Lopes, with art direction by Artur Pinheiro, photography by Miguel Manso, direction by Sérgio Graciano, and executive production by José Amaral.
