Warner Bros. Discovery has named Jose Maria Caro as the new Chief of Scripted Originals for Max Spain. In his role, Caro will oversee the development and production of scripted original content for the platform. This appointment follows Max's completion of its European rollout in June 2024 and aligns with WBD’s strategy to enhance its local-language offerings in Spain.

Caro, who joined WBD in April 2024, steps into the position after Alberto Carullo, the former VP of Productions for Italy and Iberia at Max, left to join Mediaset.

Caro's upcoming projects include originals such as “When Nobody Sees Us” and “Rage,” both slated to premiere later this year. His team is also working on an expanding slate of Spanish-language originals, with several projects currently in development, according to WBD. Caro will report to Laura Carafoli, WBD’s SVP of Content Networks & Streaming, Local Productions for Italy and Iberia. Meanwhile, unscripted originals and Spanish-language Discovery TV networks will remain under the supervision of Bibiana González, Director of Content Networks & Streaming, Non-Scripted Original Production.

With over 25 years of experience, Caro is recognized as one of Spain’s leading scripted executives. His career includes roles at Amazon Studios (now Amazon MGM Studios), where he led Spanish original series such as “Los Farad,” “Reina Roja,” “Sin Huellas,” and “Romancero.” Before that, Caro worked across the Middle East and Asia Pacific with companies like Mediapro ME and MBC. At Buendía Studios, he executive-produced titles such as “La Templanza” for Prime Video and “La Cocinera de Castamar,” “Señor Dame Paciencia,” and “Los Protegidos: El Regreso” for Atresmedia.
