Nent Group signs multi-market premium content deal with US Wiip studio

Titles including "The Uninhabitable Earth" will join a set of Nordic , Baltic, Polish and Dutch titles housed on stream service, Viaplay's catalog. The deal forms part of several in the works between NENT group and studios worldwide.

Nordic Entertainment Group  has partnered with US independent studio wiip on a content deal consisting of a range of premium productions from Viaplay's catalog. “Our partnerships are among the streaming industry’s most innovative, and this agreement with wiip shows once again that we partner with the best," Filippa Wallestam, NENT Group Chief Content Officer, said. "We can now offer even more world-class Viaplay Original storytelling to Viaplay viewers in multiple markets."

The shows will be added to the slate of Nordic and Baltic titles, as well as work from the Poland and the Netherlands. One fo the series set to be included include The first will be "The Uninhabitable Earth." “We’re thrilled that our shows will be enjoyed by audiences throughout the Nordic and Baltic regions, Poland and the Netherlands on Viaplay,”  Matteo Perale, Cofounder of Wiip said. “NENT Group is a powerful brand with a legacy of delivering great stories to consumers and we’re looking forward to this collaboration.”

NENT Group has numerous long-term partnerships with US and international studios. The company has also established a UK-based joint venture with FilmNation Entertainment and invested in the US studio Picturestart. At least 50 original productions are programmed for this year, and two major English-language films will debut each year. “NENT Group’s Viaplay streaming service is the perfect home for wiip’s stream of award-winning content,” Andreas Brosjo, broker of the deal, said.

Set to premiere on Viaplay in 2022, ‘The Uninhabitable Earth’ will show a wide range of genres about possible futures that could result from the rapid warming of our planet. The show is executive produced by Hyperobject Industries’ Adam McKay and Kevin Messick, wiip’s Paul Lee and Mark Roybal, Animal Kingdom’s David Kaplan and Andrea Roa David Wallace-Wells serve as a consulting producer.
