“The Darkness”
Lisa Kramer, President of International Content Licensing at Paramount Global Content Distribution, announced that the epic drama series "The Darkness" has been licensed to Channel 4 in the United Kingdom. The agreement was handled by Paramount Global Content Distribution. The announcement was made during a session at the Series Mania Forum, an event that brings together top industry professionals to discuss and showcase the future of television.
The series, shot in Iceland, stars Oscar nominee Lena Olin and is directed by two-time Oscar nominee Lasse Hallström, making his television directorial debut. "The Darkness" is a co-production between CBS Studios and Icelandic production company Truenorth for Icelandic broadcaster Síminn, with Stampede Ventures also serving as executive producers. Paramount Global Content Distribution oversees the series' distribution outside of Iceland.
In addition to Channel 4 in the UK, The Darkness has been licensed to SkyShowtime in the Nordics, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Spain, and Central and Eastern Europe, SBS in Australia, and Showcase in Canada. The international reach of the series highlights its growing global appeal.
The title based on the best-selling thriller series by Ragnar Jónasson, follows Detective Inspector Hulda Hermannsdóttir (Lena Olin) as she investigates a shocking murder case while facing her own personal traumas. With an impending early retirement and a forced new partnership, Hulda becomes determined to find the killer, even at the risk of her own life.
"The Darkness" is part of CBS Studios' slate of international co-productions, including critically acclaimed titles such as Colin from Accounts, the recently renewed NCIS: Sydney, and the highly anticipated drama King & Conqueror, among others.
