"South Park" creators reached $1.5 billion streaming deal with Paramount

Spanning five years, the deal would see “South Park” rake in a staggering $1.5 billion from streaming alone — reinforcing its standing as one of television’s most lucrative properties. As part of the pact, Park County has committed to delivering 10 new episodes annually.

The minds behind Comedy Central’s “South Park” scored a major win Monday, making headway in the high-stakes battle over streaming rights for the iconic animated series.

Paramount has struck a deal to secure global streaming rights to “South Park,” finally bringing the show to its own digital platform, Paramount+, in the U.S. for the first time, according to three individuals familiar with the talks who weren’t authorized to speak publicly.

The agreement — made with creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone via their Park County production banner — pegs the value of worldwide streaming rights at around $300 million per year, say two sources close to the deal. They requested anonymity, as the contract has yet to be finalized. For Paramount, it’s a long-overdue homecoming. Back in 2019, under previous leadership, “South Park” was licensed to rival streamer HBO Max while Paramount+ was still in the works. That move left Paramount out in the cold — not unlike the frosty little town of South Park, Colorado.
