Sphere Media is developing a six-part documentary series based on Sophie Grégoire Trudeau’s bestselling book and best on Audible 2024 "Closer Together: Knowing Ourselves, Loving Each Other", described as both a memoir and a manifesto for living a more authentic and fulfilling life.

Grégoire Trudeau started her career as a television and radio host in Quebec and correspondent for "e-talk", CTV’s flagship entertainment show in which she interviewed multiple international celebrities on their passions, charity work and social impact. She was married to rising political star, Justin Trudeau, in 2005 who subsequently became prime minister of Canada. As a mental health advocate for the past two decades, Grégoire Trudeau became official spokesperson and ambassador for different organizations focusing on gender equality, women’s empowerment, emotional regulation and mental health. She was named the first national volunteer for Canada’s mental health association.

The new series, led by Sphere Media’s SVP development and content, Kim Bondi will be co-produced by Sphere Media and Grégoire Trudeau and consist of six self-contained episodes, each featuring a well-known personality from the worlds of culture, sports, politics and business. Grégoire Trudeau will call on her on-screen interviewing skills to draw out her guests, giving them the space to talk candidly about their personal struggles, challenges and truths.

The documentary series will also feature professionals working on the cutting-edge of mental-health research, therapy and brain health. But despite its scientific focus, the series’ inclusive and accessible tone will help to normalise and destigmatise mental health, giving viewers new insights into the patterns, experiences and influences that prevent us from fulfilling our potential.

Sophie Grégoire Trudeau, said: “We are all one trauma away from each other. It takes one huge shift, event or tragedy to affect how we sense life and therefore, each other. Our capacity to understand and regulate ourselves and our emotions is paramount in protecting the wellbeing of our families, schools, communities…and democracy! Our capacity to adapt to this ever-changing world depends on how well we know ourselves and how we will choose to harmonize it. The time is now.”

Marlo Miazga, president of Sphere Media, said: “Sophie isn’t just the host of what’s shaping up to be a fascinating and informative series — she’s its heart, soul and guiding spirit. She brings her charisma, compassion and creativity to the project, helping to bring us all ‘closer together’ by breaking down the walls that not only hold us back but, all too often, hold us apart. This is combined with Kim Bondi’s renowned power to translate meaningful ideas into thoroughly entertaining content with global reach. Sophie should also be applauded for using her extraordinary network to foster awareness of the mental-health issues that affect and afflict so many lives and, most importantly, how to overcome these challenges.”
