Vietnam Television (VTV) and Tokyo Broadcasting System Television, Inc. (TBS) have signed a landmark co-production agreement aimed at fostering long-term collaboration in developing and delivering engaging entertainment content for Vietnamese and Japanese audiences. The agreement was formalized at VTV’s headquarters in Hanoi, with senior executives from both organizations present.
Mr. Do Chi Nghia, General Director of VTV, emphasized the significance of the deal: “TBS is one of the most prestigious broadcasters in Japan. I hope this agreement will open many opportunities for both sides to cooperate in the development and distribution of compelling entertainment content, and to enhance the experience and skills of production staff.”
Representing TBS, President and Representative Director Takashi Sasaki highlighted the strategic value of the Vietnamese market: “Vietnam is a rapidly growing market and plays a central role in Southeast Asia. We at TBS are very honored to start a new partnership with VTV, one of the leading broadcasters in the country. Through the co-production of original content and the exchange of staff, we are looking forward to building a strong relationship between our two companies.”
Under this comprehensive partnership, the two companies will work together to produce original formats and adapt existing formats for both the Vietnamese and Japanese markets. The cooperation also includes a commitment to exchange creative personnel, deepening the talent pipeline and promoting knowledge transfer between the two broadcasters. The first co-developed project is expected to begin production in the second half of 2026.
This collaboration builds on VTV’s ongoing strategy to globalize its programming through international partnerships, while also aligning with TBS’s broader objective to expand its content presence across Asia. By combining VTV’s local insight with TBS’s production expertise, the deal aims to generate scalable content IP that resonates across both domestic and international audiences.
The partnership comes at a time of increasing cross-border cooperation in the television industry, as broadcasters respond to audience demand for more culturally diverse and globally relevant content. With this agreement, VTV and TBS position themselves at the forefront of that shift, setting the stage for a new era of Asia-led entertainment co-productions.
