Since July 2021, Netflix has published a Weekly Top 10 list of the globally most-watched titles on the streaming platform. A study of this data shows that French productions take the leading spots in the rankings for the second half of 2021, both in terms of volume of content and hours viewed, according to Unifrance.

Out of the 108 non-English language films and TV movies ranked in one or more of the Weekly Top 10 lists since July 2021, French productions are the most highly represented, both in terms of volume of content and hours viewed: the 12 French productions that feature in one or more Weekly Top 10 list generated over 245 million view hours (17% of the total number of view hours logged by non-English language films included in the Top 10 lists).

The data released by Netflix also includes a report on its most successful launches, with a list of the Top 10 films that registered the highest number of view hours in the first 28 days of release. In this category, too, French films are strongly placed, with four French productions featuring in the Top 10 releases of non-English language films on Netflix: “Rogue City,” “Lost Bullet,” “Spoiled Brats,” and “The Last Mercenary”. These four films also account for 33.5% of the hours viewed in this list of Top 10 releases.

French series by no means lag behind, with French shows such as “Christmas Flow,” “Braqueurs: La Série,” “Disparu à jamais,” and “Lupin” appearing in at least one Weekly Top 10 list of non-English language series in the second half of 2021. Among these titles, “Lupin” stands out as logging the fourth best release for a non-English language series on Netflix, registering over 500 million view hours in the first 28 days.
