A NEW FRENCH GOVERNMENT BAN PUTS SERIES MANIA IN DOUBT AGAIN

Although the organisers of Series Mania announced a couple of days ago that despite the expansion of the coronavirus they had no plans to suspend or cancel the 2020 edition of the event, which is supposed to take place between March 20 and 28 in Lille, France, now those responsible for the convention said they are monitoring the ongoing impact of the Covid-19 in the country.

That is because, recently, French authorities expanded its ban on public gatherings to include groups of more than 1.000 people – down from 5.000 –, prompting concerns that the annual Lille-based drama-skewing event could be cancelled. However, there is not an official decision by the officials behind Series Mania yet.

This new ban is at present set to last until at least April 15, having been moved from an initial date of May 31. Series Mania is scheduled for March 20-28 and comprises both the three-day Forum and the week-long Festival, which includes a raft of screenings, and is due to start on March 20.

Last week, Series Mania organisers confirmed that a raft of hygiene and information measures were in place to ensure the event could go ahead as planned. These include the provision of hand sanitizers across all festival locations, “reinforced cleaning schedules” across all festival locations, special notices relating recommended hygiene practices, and additional training for staff.
