ORF Original “Kafka” was selected at the Berlinale Series Market, the EFM's main industry platform for serial content from around the world. The series is a celebration of Franz Kafka's legacy, brought to life with wit and humor by an exceptional cast and team. Featuring a first-class cast: Joel Basman (Franz Kafka), David Kross (Max Brod), Nicholas Ofczarek (Hermann Kafka) and Liv Lisa Fries (Milena Jesenská). “Kafka” is a co-production by Superfilm, ARD and ORF and is distributed worldwide by ORF-Enterprise.

"We are proud to showcase this exceptional original series as part of the Berlinale Series Market Selects, inviting attendees to immerse themselves in the captivating world of one of literature's most enigmatic figures,” says Oliver Böhm, Managing Director of ORF-Enterprise.

“This recognition speaks for the series' allure and global potential. We're eager to connect with industry professionals and buyers at the event, confident that 'Kafka' will resonate strongly with international audiences. It's also a testament to the fruitful collaboration between the broadcasters ARD and ORF,” adds Armin Luttenberger, Head of Content Sales International at ORF-Enterprise.

Franz Kafka, the world’s most widely read German-language author, will have died 100 years ago in June 2024, and the time has come for an entertaining and humorous serial approach to his life and character. No one could be better suited for this undertaking than the internationally renowned, best-selling author Daniel Kehlmann and the exceptional writer-director David Schalko.

At the mini-series’ heart are Kafka’s remarkable love affairs with Felice Bauer, Milena Jesenska, and Dora Diamant, his difficult relationship with his tyrannical father, and also his close friendship with Max Brod, who would ultimately come to betray his terminally ill friend, yet assured his enduring fame in the process.
