Lineup Industries is bringing brand-new science format "Space Challenge: Mission to Mars" to MIPCOM 2023 and has brought the European Space Agency and its astronauts on board for local versions of the show, which uses the latest augmented reality to bring space travel to life.

Aimed at family audiences, "Space Challenge:Mission to Mars" is an immersive trip to the famous red planet. Seven groundbreaking episodes guide viewers through each stage of the mission, from earth through space and all the way to Mars’ inhospitable surface. The support of the European Space Agency will see a real-life astronaut feature as a host of the show, alongside a co-host from the local channel, as well as present up-to-date space insights and research. Each of the seven episodes comes with a bespoke package of research and AR which reduces the production process and budget level.

There also is the opportunity for local hosts to attend the space agency’s facilities including European Space Research and Technology Centre to experience weightlessness in a parabolic flight, a deep dive practice spacewalk, G-force and the operating of Mars rovers and robots to capture the depth of preparatory training for a space mission.

The format was originally developed by KRO-NCRV in collaboration with Space Plays B.V. and Hens Concept & Motion Graphic Designs and produced by KRO-NCRV for NPO. The format is an accessible, entertaining, co-viewing experience for kids and families.

Ed Louwerse, Founder of Lineup Industries said: “This is one of our first forays into science formats but one which we couldn’t miss. 'Space Challenge:Mission to Mars' brings all the wonder and excitement of space to life in compelling AR to keep science fans glued to the screen. Bringing the European Space Agency on board means that the show can be guided and enhanced by the experience of real-life astronauts, making for a truly authentic and up the minute space extravaganza for all ages.”
