Nearing the end of the 2022 edition of Mipcom Cannes, executives from the organizing company, RX Global, held a press conference in which they provided data and numbers on the latest edition of the market. As detailed by Lucy Smith, Director of Mipcom and MIPTV, this year’s Mipcom gathered 10.896 delegates so far, surpassing the 10.000 the company expected. The number is not final and is expected to be even higher by the end of the market.
“Our ambition for Mipcom Cannes was to come back with a bang and be true to the billing as ‘The Mother of All Entertainment Content Markets.’ And we have delivered that big annual global market to the industry after what has been a long three years for some, and certainly a different experience for all of us,” Lucy Smith declared.
According to the Director of Mipcom and MIPTV, representatives from 108 countries showed up in Cannes. This includes 3.100 buyers, with the biggest numbers coming from the United States, followed by the UK, France, Germany, and Spain, and comprised global and regional streamers, AVOD platforms, and broadcast channels from every corner of the globe. Moreover, the number of individual stands came to 321, which includes regular stands but also tents, double deckers, and more.
Regarding MIPJunior, which was celebrated before Mipcom Cannes, Smith disclosed that the two-day event also surpassed all expectations with 1.311 delegates. “As we all know, the kid’s community is one of the most dynamic in the industry. I have just come out from an advisory session where the takeaway was two days is not enough, and they confirmed that after three years that MIPJunior and Mipcom is the unmissable event for them in the calendar,” she commented.
Regarding the future, Lucy Smith confirmed that MIPTV, the first MIP market of the year, which in 2023 will be celebrating its 60th anniversary, will take place from April 17-19. “MIPTV is not about being biggest market of the year. It is about being the most relevant, at the right time,” she assured, while also confirming that documentary and factual programming will take center stage at MIPTV 2023.
