Writing Box
Recently, Italian production companies Adler Entertainment and 39Films launched Writing Box, a new content factory for audiovisual productions, created through collaboration between Italian and international authors. "We launched this IP incubator, this 'magic box,' as a home for Italian and international screenwriters who want to make their projects international, and therefore appeal to a global audience," explained Marco Colombo, Chairman of Adler Entertainment. "We are trying to create projects based on public demand and market needs, which call for products that are more engaging and elaborate," stated Alfredo Federico, founder of 39Films. He mentioned that international films or series sometimes stereotype Italian culture, while other beautiful auteur films remain limited to Italy without reaching international audiences. "This is why we want to create products that allow for dialogue between international and national authors from the outset, ensuring that all our projects are born with an international perspective," he added.
Mattia della Puppa from Adler Entertainment explained that Writing Box aims to fill a gap in "cultural cross-pollination." "There have been many productions that explore genre blending, which is creatively interesting, but in terms of cultural cross-pollination, there has never really been a dedicated space. This is a crucial area, one that must be developed from multiple perspectives," he said.
Regarding the editorial line of projects developed within Writing Box, Federico affirmed that they are seeking productions with an international appeal but also a strong auteur identity. "We want to create works that we would recommend to our friends and family, but that also resonate with a broad audience," emphasized della Puppa. "All projects must include elements that make them suitable for an international market," Colombo added.
FIRST RESIDENCY
Writing Box was created to position itself as an IP incubator developing films, documentaries, and TV series for the international market. "At the core of our initiative is a guiding principle: the IP," said della Puppa. So far, Writing Box has announced four projects (three films and one TV series) that will be developed during its first residency, which will take place in Tuscany from April 22 to 27, in collaboration with Nostos Screenwriting Retreats. The films are Azzardo, based on a book by Alessandra Mureddu (Einaudi) with a screenplay by Laura Paolucci and Agustina Macri; Neppure un capello, written by Francesco Trento in collaboration with Giaime Maccioni and Marco Cipriani; Lella (the story of Lella Lombardi), with a screenplay by Francesco Trento, Adele Augruso, and Agustina Macri; and finally, the TV series Il Principe, by Giulia Pagnacco and Davide Lo Schiavo.
The residency will feature two prominent names from the international art scene, Meg Le Fauve (Oscar nominee for Inside Out) and Joe Forte.
