A study from Digital TV Research indicates that although Eastern Europe’s digital market will show growth, its overall pay-TV arena will experience a large subscriber loss from now until 2025. By the end of last year, Eastern Europe had 15.4 million cable subscribers. According to the data, the region will gain 10 million digital pay-TV subscribers between 2019 and 2025 to take its total to 77 million.

Digital TV Research partially blames the losses on migration from the region, along with low birth rats that will likely cause the population to fall in 14 of the 22 countries that will be covered by the company between 2019 and 2025. Simon Murray, Principal Analyst at Digital TV Research predicted the outcome to be that TV households will fall in 16 countries between 2019 and 2025, with the region’s TV households dropping by 2.2 million over time.

It also projected that the number of pay-TV subscribers will fall in six countries between 2019 and 2025.
Even though Russia is set to account for half of the region’s pay-TV subscribers in 2025, it will likely lose 2.91 million pay-TV subs between 2019 and 2025.
