“The Battle for Britney: Fans, Cash and a Conservatorship,” which airs tonight on BBC Two, is produced by Laura Kaye (The Girl from Ipanema: Brazil, Bossa Nova, and the Beach) and executive produced by Jeremy Lee (Anton Ferdinand: Football, Racism and Me, Hometown: A Killing).  The 1 x 60’ access-based documentary sees BAFTA award-winning journalist and film-maker Mobeen Azhar (Hometown: A Killing) seek to uncover the truth behind the conservatorship that Britney Spears has been held under for the last thirteen years.

Journeying from Britney’s hometown of Kentwood, Louisiana to Los Angeles, Azhar untangles the complexities surrounding the conservatorship. He delves into one of the most passionate fan bases in modern celebrity, attending a court hearing along the way and finding himself in the midst of the ongoing battle between Britney's conservatorship team and the passionate fans behind the #FreeBritney movement. Jonathan Ford, Managing Director at AMR comments, “This is a truly illuminating factual feature - part investigation, a part love letter to Britney the global star.  The Battle for Britney also asks wider questions about the power of the music industry and the American star-making machine, and examines the civil rights issues involved with her conservatorship”.
