All3Media International has signed six brand-new format commissions for IDTV’s "The Traitors." These latest deals take the total number of local adaptations to 20. “The global response to “The Traitors” – from broadcasters, viewers and critics – has been incredible, and we’re delighted to see the finished tape versions traveling so well following the success they have had on their commissioning channels,” Jennifer Askin, SVP North America at All3Media International, said. “As the home not only for multiple finished tape versions but also for the format, we’re in the ideal position to ensure all our partners can fully maximize the opportunities this exciting new brand represents.”
Created in the Netherlands by IDTV, an All3Media company, “The Traitors” format was further developed with the RTL Creative Unit and originally produced by IDTV for RTL4. The original Dutch version, ‘De Verraders,’ launched in 2021 and is now in its third season, which began in March 2023. In addition to the show’s on-screen success, “The Traitors” Card Game is now available in the UK through a partnership between All3Media International and game distributor Ginger Fox. And the official “The Traitors” Board Game will launch in the UK and Eire later this year following a licensing partnership between All3Media International, Identity Games and Vivid/Goliath. All3Media International represents the UK, US and Australian finished tape adaptations for all three series.
Portugal is the latest faithful territory to adapt "The Traitors." “Os Traidores” launched on SIC Sunday 9th April. Produced by Shine Iberia, the first episode won its time slot, with a 19% share*, and trended consistently on Twitter during and following the series premiere. In Greece, ANT1 channel has commissioned The Traitors, with Silverline Media Productions set to produce. Hungarian broadcaster RTL has commissioned a local version and in Israel, the title has been commissioned by Keshet with Fremantle’s Abot Hameiri producing the series, which is currently in production in Hungary. A Swedish version has been commissioned and a new version has been commissioned by an unannounced territory. Jasper Hoogendoorn, Creative Director IDTV, commented, “We’re incredibly proud to see our original format heading to even more new territories. This twist-laden psychological adventure is perfect for local adaptation, delivering a reality show that grips audiences and creates as big a buzz as any scripted drama. We’re already on our third season here in the Netherlands and can’t wait to see more mind games begin in these latest adaptations. With its appeal now proven in so many territories and multiple second seasons in development, The Traitors is sure to carry on going from strength to strength globally in the hands of the All3Media International team.”
Local versions for the show are also on the way in Germany (RTL), Finland (broadcaster TBC) and Denmark (TV2). A Spanish version recently debuted on HBO Max, and a local version is set to air on Three in New Zealand. Second seasons have also been commissioned following successful debut seasons in Flemish-speaking Belgium (VTM), French-speaking Belgium (RTL TVI), France (M6), Australia (Network 10), UK (BBC One), US (Peacock) and Norway (TV2).
In the psychological reality series, the contestants move into an atmospheric location with the goal to work as a team to complete a series of challenging missions to earn a cash prize. The catch, however, is that some of the contestants are traitors who will attempt to deceive and manipulate their way to the prize instead of sharing it amongst the group. As this gripping psychological game plays out, the contestants must do everything they can to identify the traitors in their midst before it is too late. “We’re delighted to see six new territories around the table as ‘The Traitors’ reaches the milestone of 20 local adaptations. IDTV’s highly adaptable format has not only notched up an impressive number of international versions in just two years, it has also succeeded in truly capturing the public’s attention wherever it airs, leading to most broadcasters already commissioning second seasons," Nick Smith, EVP Formats at All3Media International, added. "Many viewers are looking for more depth and substance in their reality shows, and ‘The Traitors’ really taps into that ‘intelligent reality’ trend, delivering an addictive game of deception, skill and trust that keeps the audience guessing until the very last episode.”
