"Crongton"
Independent distributor All3Media International has announced New Pictures’ acclaimed young adult series "Crongton" has been acquired by Australian Broadcasting Company (ABC) for Australian free-to-air television channel ABC Family, and video on demand service ABC iview.
Airing on BBC Three and BBC iPlayer earlier this year, the ten-part comedy-drama written by the award-winning writer and comedian Archie Maddocks and based on the best-selling British novels by Alex Wheatle was met by widespread critical acclaim. Described as ‘joyous’, ‘bold’ (The Guardian), ‘brilliant’ and ‘kinetic’ (The Telegraph), the series will be coming soon to ABC Family and ABC iview.
Alexander Euler (Commercial Manager, Australia, New Zealand & Pan Asia) underlined some of the key elements of the title: “Crongton' is a vivid, joyful series celebrating what it means to be a young person today through exploring friendship and family identity. It’s captured the imaginations of audiences young and old across the UK. We’re absolutely thrilled to have ABC on board to share this vibrant journey with families all over Australia," commented.
"Crongton"(10 x 25’) chronicles the lives and journeys of a group of young people living in a thriving, multicultural community in a fictional urban housing estate, as they navigate the complexities of social politics, peer pressure and identity while trying to forge a place for themselves within a world full of possibility and littered with danger.
Shot through with irreverent humour and featuring animated fantasy sequences, it’s a joyful, energetic ride through the trials and tribulations of growing up, a celebration of the kind of community you only find on an estate, and a look at how you come to terms with the darkness of the world around you when you’re on the cusp of childhood and adulthood.
