CAN OKAN: “IN TODAY’S WORLD, CONTENT TRENDS CHANGE EVERY DAY”

The Founder and CEO at Inter Medya explain the company's strategy for a time of online events and digital meetings, where ready-made Turkish drama is still in high demand.

Despite a very particular year for content production and distribution, Inter Medya has been very active in the international arena. The company attends Mipcom Online+ after the Mexican adaptation of "Black Money Love" was launched in Mexico by Las Estrellas and in the United States by Univision. Earlier this month, Inter Medya's titles were also awarded in the Izmir Film Festival month. To describe the company's current strategy and future goals, Señal News interviewed Can Okan, Founder and CEO at Inter Medya.
 
With a different Mipcom this year, do you see an extra business opportunity for ready-made Turkish drama?
"Content production is certainly a huge endeavor, and producers are indeed faced with numerous restrictions nowadays. Distribution is always at the core of our business; we believe that finished products offer an easy option for broadcasters, who can control the type of content they want to feature on their channel. The advantage of Turkish content is that it is a good option for everyone who has delayed productions".
 
How much have your sales strategy changed during the times of online markets?
"Thankfully, the exhibition companies are working very hard to find alternatives. We try to adapt ourselves to these opportunities to do our job most efficiently. We are changing the way we target our clients by maximizing our resources and adjusting our marketing plans to reach even more people. For example, we focused a lot on our social media platforms. We can say that new habits are developing, and these newly formed patterns may continue even after this crisis".
 
What are Inter Medya's main goals for the rest of 2020?
"In today's world, trends in content consumption change every day, and we always push ourselves to improve and learn continuously. Our aim is always to move forward and reach every territory with our content. Moreover, we want to increase our international experience and dominance in the production field, which is still a new world. Right now, our greatest aspiration is that the whole world will easily leave these difficult days behind. As in every market, we will be launching our best content virtually and doing our job in the best possible way".
 
What new shows will Inter Medya launch at Mipcom Online+? 
"'The Ambassador's Daughter' is one of this season's highly acclaimed series. The series has been licensed in over 50 territories so far, and we are sure that its success will only grow in the coming months. Moreover, 'Ramo' is another successful drama from our catalog. We will also present 'The Light of Hope,' a daily show starring Elizabeth Damla Güvenilir, the child actress from the widely known 'Elif,' that carries a strong Turkish DNA, with a story that can appeal to audiences everywhere. Our successful drama 'Bitter Lands' was also renewed for its third season. The series has already been licensed in over 55 territories. Furthermore, we are continuously expanding our library with new hits and every genre. This year we have added a number of mini-series to our library, such as "Interrupted". We are also featuring "Miracle in Cell No. 7", one of our most successful Turkish movies. Watched by 5.2 million moviegoers in Turkey, it tells the heartbreaking story of Memo, who lives with his beloved little daughter and grandmother in an Aegean town".
