Marking three decades in the entertainment business, South Korea’s CJ ENM has taken a decisive step into the future by unveiling a comprehensive AI content strategy during its 2025 Culture Talk event, titled “K-Content Meets AI: How AI Technology is Transforming the Future of the K-Content Industry,” held at the CJ ENM Talent Studio in Sangam, Seoul. The company also premiered “Cat Biggie,” a fully AI-produced short-form animation series that demonstrates the company’s ambition to redefine production pipelines and build global competitiveness through artificial intelligence.

Shin Keun-sup, Chief Strategy Officer at CJ ENM, emphasized the scope and vision of the initiative, stating, “We are applying AI across the entire content value chain—including planning, production, distribution, and marketing—to expand AI content production across genres and formats. This allows us to secure next-generation IP. At the same time, we’re nurturing a new generation of creators equipped with AI technology, business, and content planning expertise, and expanding our AI team to position CJ ENM as a global AI studio.”

The company introduced two proprietary AI tools that are central to this transformation. “Cinematic AI,” built for narrative formats like drama and film, integrates image, video, sound, and voice generation into a unified pipeline, solving a longstanding challenge of coherence in AI-generated audiovisual content. It also automates the processing of 3D characters and environments to maintain consistency throughout the production. The second innovation, “AI Script,” is an agent-based system that analyzes consumer demand and market trends to identify viable IP opportunities. Designed to outperform conventional AI models, AI Script offers deep literary language understanding and cross-lingual marketability analysis.

The AI strategy came to life with the premiere of “Cat Biggie,” a non-verbal 3D animated series consisting of 30 two-minute episodes. Created by a compact team of six specialists in just five months, the series is a milestone in AI-driven production speed and efficiency. Typically, a five-minute 3D animation requires three to four months to produce. Baek Hyun-jung, Head of AI Business & Production at CJ ENM and the project lead, noted, “The key challenge was controlling and expressing the dynamic movements unique to animation. We used our tool, Cinematic AI, to convert the characters into 3D data and train the production system accordingly. This allowed us to achieve a high level of completeness in the final output.”

“Cat Biggie,” which follows the comedic and heartwarming story of a cat unexpectedly becoming a father to a baby chick, is slated for global release on YouTube beginning in July. CJ ENM also announced that it will follow up with AI-produced films and dramas before the end of the year, signaling a rapid scaling of its AI content slate.

Legal and policy frameworks were also discussed during the event. Sang-Hyeok Im, Partner at SHIN & KIM LLC, addressed the regulatory path ahead: “It is crucial to establish a foundation to advance the global AI content market. This includes clear industry guidelines, legal frameworks for copyright and data protection, and the dedicated government departments to support the field.”

As CJ ENM celebrates its 30th anniversary, its aggressive pivot to AI-driven storytelling sets a new benchmark not only for K-content but also for the broader global entertainment landscape. The company’s ability to fuse technological innovation with its core creative capabilities marks a new era in scalable, data-informed IP development for international audiences.
