Espresso Media International to globally represent the documentary "Meet the Clan", from BAFTA-winning production company True TV, in the global marketplace for all rights, excluding the UK, under its international title "Meet the Buchanans."

"Meet the Clan" makes its premiere on August 8 on BBC Scotland and BBC iPlayer across the UK. “Having worked with producer Barbara Orton since the programme’s early stages, we could not be more delighted to see it premiere on BBC Scotland today,” says Georgia Walters, Marketing and Acquisitions Executive at Espresso Media International. “The documentary is a warm-hearted examination of how history is made – and who gets to make it. With global fascination about Scottish culture and clans, especially in the US and other countries with Scottish diaspora, we are excited to see how this title is received by international audiences.”

“Espresso has been with me from early times, so I’m looking forward to getting this film out there with them. I hope viewers from everywhere will see a side of Scotland outside the norm and enjoy the watch on the way,” says Barbara Orton, producer at True TV.

After more than 300 years without a chief, Clan Buchanan recently installed a new one. New chief Mike Buchanan, having been approved by the Lord Lyon, was duly installed in an elaborate ceremony in the heart of the Trossachs. This new documentary follows the events leading up to the ceremony, at his family’s castle home. It was attended by Buchanan descendants from countries across the world and featured a stone ‘throne’, coronet, and swords – all specially commissioned for the event – a pipers’ procession and a medieval-style fanfare.

As well as documenting the investiture, this new documentary, produced by True TV for BBC Scotland, follows the new Chief in the period running up to the ceremony, meeting members of the clan diaspora. And reveals how Scottish clan heritage is attracting adherents from across the globe… sometimes with a bit of a mix of historical fact and fiction.

In Mexico City, clan descendant Pedro Buchanan has created a new brand of drink in honour of his Scottish heritage and tartan-mad enthusiasts are seen hailing ‘The Buchanan’ at Highland Games, packed with celebrating Americans, in New Hampshire. As Mike himself says in the documentary: “British, Scottish people don’t’ get terribly excited by it… but Americans are absolutely mad about it!”
