FilmRise appoints Jim Brown to Director, Digital Distribution and Programming role

The former BBS Studios Director Content Sales & Distribution will be tasked with growing the company’s digital distribution footprint by licensing content to partners for their AVOD and/or FAST platforms

FilmRise recently named Jim Brown Director, Digital Distribution and Programming. The appointment was made today by Melissa Wohl, SVP, Head of Content Sales, FilmRise. “Jim has an unparalleled amount of experience in licensing and deal negotiations with global streaming platforms, which will add tremendously to FilmRise’s overall growth,"  Melissa Wohl said. "His background with niche content and specialty streamers is going to be incredibly valuable with our extensive library of genre programming.”

Under his new role, Brown will be tasked with leveraging the company’s digital distribution footprint by licensing content to partners for their AVOD and/or FAST platforms. Set to report directly to Daniel Gagliardi, VP, Digital Distribution and Business Development, he will also work alongside FilmRise Content Sales team, conduct contract negotiations, deal compliance, and monitor key performance metrics. 

Before joining FilmRise, Brown worked at BBC Studios' Content Sales team for eight years. During the tenure, he licensed content to AVOD, SVOD and linear platforms, working with partners such as Netflix, Amazon, Hulu, Ovation, Criterion Channel and BritBox. Prior to that, he was Director of Operations for World Wrestling Entertainment where he helped launch and subsequently managed the WWE Classics SVOD business unit.

He also served as Manager of Programming and New Media at Insight Communications where he was responsible for programming acquisitions and strategy for their On Demand platform. Mr. Brown also held various positions in Affiliate Sales and Marketing for Viacom Networks, including Manager of Broadband Development and Contract Manager.
