Finland-based Gigglebug Entertainment has officially brought on Lorna Withrington as its new Head of Development, appointing the seasoned creative executive to a full-time role. Withrington, who is based in Toronto, brings around 20 years of experience in children’s television, having held positions at WildBrain (VP of Animation Development), Spin Master (Director of Development), and eOne Family (Director of Creative Affairs).

Previously consulting for Gigglebug through her own company, With Bells On Entertainment, Withrington has spent the past year helping to shape the studio’s project slate. She will now spearhead the development of these initiatives.

Gigglebug CEO and co-founder Anttu Harlin highlighted Withrington’s extensive background with renowned children’s brands, such as “Peppa Pig” and “PJ Masks”, and her insight into the global market as invaluable assets for the studio’s growth. “Getting the balance of creative authenticity and market fit is something that we can really elevate together with Lorna.”

Gigglebug specializes in developing and producing original children’s TV series and films, including “Best & Bester” (commissioned by YLE and acquired by Nickelodeon). The studio also offers service work on projects like Warner Bros. Animation’s “Merry Little Batman” feature film and Disney’s series “101 Dalmatian Street.”

Recently, Gigglebug has been expanding, including the opening of a new studio in the Canary Islands earlier this month, aiming to benefit from the region’s attractive 45% to 50% tax deductions for qualifying foreign productions.
