MCR TV and Autentic have entered a partnership to produce a documentary focusing on scientists exploring remote and unknown environments across the world. The project marks the start of a long-term collaboration between both parties. “We are pleased to be joined by Autentic in telling the story of the amazing scientists and experts on board of this expedition," Salim Zeghdar, MCR TV CEO said. "Their work will surely shed a light on the many challenges we will have to face to preserve the health of our oceans. Through this immersive project, MCR TV aims at raising awareness on these important issues.”
The upcoming research expedition, an initiative by the Principality's ‘Monaco Explorations’, was relaunched by Prince Albert II of Monaco in 2017 and will take place in the Western Indian Ocean. Here, a quest for humanism and scientific truth in one of the most remote and hard to access ecosystems will be captured by Autentic, in a 90’ documentary for the international market. Aboard the South African oceanographic and supply ship S.A. Agulhas II, Harald Pokieser, a renowned scientific journalist, and wildlife filmmaker, will be spearheading the documentary. Harald Pokieser has worked for multiple wildlife programs with partners around the world, from ORF and ZDF to the Discovery Channel, from ARTE and Canal Plus to National Geographic, The Smithsonian Channel and PBS. He has received numerous international film awards for his work.
The project relies on the enormous commitment H.S.H. Prince Albert II of Monaco has made to the marine environment, in an effort to preserve our Oceans. His expeditions are carried out with the aim of combining scientific research, public outreach, and governmental cooperation. H.S.H. Prince Albert II’s dedication to the marine environment increased Monaco's influence and action all over the world. From October to November, the expedition will focus on four subject areas between Reunion, Mauritius, and Seychelles: the protection of corals, the protection of megafauna, the development of marine protected areas and the development of new exploration technologies.
During the two-month expedition, the documentary follows different actors in this largescale operation: scientists, decision-makers, artists, and outreach specialists. They will pool their skills and unite their efforts with the intention of raising awareness in the widest possible audience. The aim of the documentary is to highlight the value of these natural spaces and the pressures they are subjected to, due to the impact of climate change. Furthermore, the expedition hopes to identify the solutions to be considered in order to preserve these very fragile ecosystems.
More expeditions to other Oceans around the world, will be accompanied by Autentic in the coming years. “It is rare to have the chance to observe some of the world´s top scientists working in this beautiful and hardly ever seen environment," Patrick Hörl, Managing Director Autentic said. "Autentic is proud to join MCR TV in this high budget project to tell breathtaking stories about those modern day heroes, who help us to understand, how vulnerable our oceans are.”
