Penske Media Corporation has sold TVLine to Indianapolis-based Static Media for an undisclosed amount. The entertainment news site, launched in 2011, covers television news, interviews, spoilers, clips, recaps, and reviews. Editor-in-chief Kimberly Roots will remain in her role along with most of the staff, while co-editor Matt Mitovich is stepping down.
This deal marks another acquisition for Static Media in 2025. Earlier this year, it purchased automotive site Jalopnik from G/O Media, and Penske Media also sold tech and science outlet BGR to Static. Penske declined to comment on the TVLine transaction.
TVLine was founded by Michael Ausiello, a former columnist for Entertainment Weekly and senior writer at TV Guide. Ausiello will depart as part of the transaction. Since its launch, TVLine has focused on breaking television news and detailed recaps. Roots, who joined the outlet in 2012, became editor-in-chief in April 2024 after rising through the editorial ranks.
Static Media, founded in 2012, operates more than 30 digital brands across entertainment, food, lifestyle, automotive, and health. Its portfolio includes Looper, The Takeout, Chowhound, Jalopnik, Glam, and SlashFilm. With more than 200 employees, the company reports an audience exceeding 220 million monthly visitors, growth fueled by a 2023 investment from Canadian private equity firm Novacap.
