Season 9 of "Över Atlanten", the Swedish adaptation of Rabbit Films’ original format "Over the Atlantic", has premiered to record-breaking results on Kanal 5 Sweden (Warner Bros. Discovery), drawing 416,000 total viewers and capturing a 21.6% share in the key 25–69 demographic. This represents the highest audience share for a local Swedish production on Kanal 5 in 16 years, firmly positioning the series as a flagship unscripted hit for the network. It also secured the title of the most-watched series on HBO Max in Sweden for the evening, while easily dominating its linear primetime slot.
“Nothing makes us at Kanal 5 and HBO Max happier than receiving such a positive response to our content from the audience,” said Axel Eriksson, VP of Content and Programming at Warner Bros. Discovery Sweden.
Jonathan Tuovinen, SVP International at Rabbit Films, reflected on the show's longevity: “I think this might be the first-ever Season 10 of any format in my career so far! I’m so happy and proud that this milestone was reached with Over the Atlantic Sweden. It has been an absolute pleasure working with Kanal 5 and Mastiff, and watching our format thrive year after year.”
Produced by Mastiff Sweden (Banijay), "Över Atlanten" follows a group of celebrities with no sailing experience as they attempt to cross the Atlantic Ocean together. Beyond the physical challenges, the show offers a deeply personal journey, often leading to transformative moments for its participants. The enduring success of the show has now led Kanal 5 to officially commission Season 10, which is already in production. A new group of six celebrities recently set sail from Gran Canaria, aiming to reach Salvador, Brazil by the end of the month. The upcoming season is slated to premiere in spring 2026 on Kanal 5 and HBO Max.
The original version, "Atlantin yli", launched on TV5 Finland (WBD) in 2017, and quickly expanded internationally, beginning with Kanal 5 Denmark. The Swedish version has aired continuously since 2019, now delivering two seasons per year. The franchise has also been adapted in the Netherlands (RTL), Belgium (Play4), Poland (TVN), and Norway (TVNorge), solidifying "Over the Atlantic" as a proven international reality format with enduring market appeal.
