Shaun Murphy launches new production company, Big Owl Pictures

Former Warner Bros Australia executive, Shaun Murphy, has launched a TV and film prodco called Big Owl Pictures. “Whether it’s an intimate story or a giant global format, at Big Owl we’ll look at everything as a story that can be built into something magnificent," Murphy said. "Our strategic partnership with Balance Vector, led by Steve Luczo, gives us access to a vast array of content ideas to explore across sport, property, communications, tech and talent.”

The new establishment will develop and produce all genres of unscripted content, as well as select scripted and film projects, for domestic platforms and the international market. Murphy is CEO and executive producer at Big Owl Pictures, which is backed by private equity group Balance Vector.

Big Owl Pictures will announce its executive team and new projects in the coming months. Balance Vector will take a stake in the prodco, with Luczo acting as senior advisor.

Murphy contributed six years as leader of television at Warner Bros Australia and was also previously an exec producer at Shine Australia. His credits include "The Masked Singer," "The Bachelor," "First Dates," "Who Do You Think You Are?," "Back in Time for Dinner," "Celebrity Apprentice," "The Bachelorette," "Little Big Shots" and "Dancing with the Stars." He also exec produced "Australia’s Next Top Model," "Dying for Everest," "Coolfuel Roadtrip" and produced Crips & Bloods: Made in America. 

Luczo, Balance Vector founder and former chairman and CEO of Seagate Technology, will act as a senior advisor to the company, having previously worked with Murphy on Crips & Bloods: Made In America, as well as Jason Pollock’s 2008 documentary The Youngest Candidate. “Our strategic partnership with Balance Vector, led by the phenomenal Steve Luczo, gives us access to a vast array of content ideas to explore across sport, property, communications, tech, and talent.”
