Rochford Productions has entered a collaboration with John de Mol’s Talpa for the new songwriting competition, set to launch on SBS6 in the Netherlands this Summer. “This is a new route into the music industry for all our potential singer songwriters," Rochford’s executive producer Chris Hopkins, said. "Their ability to write an original hit song for someone else could change their life forever.”
"I Want Your Song" was created by Rochford Productions and Talpa Concepts, produced by Talpa Entertainment Productions and distributed by Talpa Distribution. “Working together with creatives from outside of our own company on creating new formats is something we focus on more than ever. Seeing ideas transform to formats and then hit the screen is what makes us all tick here at Talpa," Geertje Hoek, Managing Director of Talpa Concepts, said.
On "I Want Your Song," five unknown songwriters get their chance to pitch an original song written by themselves to some of the biggest artists in the Netherlands. Each episode features one prominent Dutch recording artist who is looking for their next big hit. While there are many great singers in the country, that doesn't necessarily mean there’s an abundance of great songs... Every week, five songwriters are invited to pitch their songs to the recording artist with the help of a live band.
The audience is filled with 100 of the artist’s biggest fans, but it’s the artist themselves who ultimately makes the decision about which song they connect with the most. The winning song chosen at the end of the episode, is immediately available for download and streaming accompanied with a music video, as it gets an instant world premiere by the artist themselves and is ready to storm the charts.
