TOPIC ACQUIRES ZDF’S “THE BRIDGE”

The US streamer obtained rights to the show after it was acquired in its entirety by Australian broadcaster SBS TV. The show has been sold around the world and remade on five different occasions.

ZDF Enterprises has sold four seasons of the Nordic drama, “The Bridge” to US SVOD platform Topic. “‘The Bridge’ is a timeless classic, a crime thriller that has captivated audiences around the world," Robert Franke, Vice President ZDFE.drama, ZDF Enterprises, said. "This drama is a perfect fit for Topic who focuses on acquiring high-end, smart content for their viewers.”

In addition to the streamer's acquisitions, the distributor has also relicensed the entire series to Australian public broadcaster SBS TV. The US deal, ZDF Enterprises’ first with Topic, was brokered by Director, Yi Qiao and VP of Acquisitions at Topic, Jennifer Liang, which follows another recent sale to Israel’s KAN.

“The Bridge” has been sold worldwide and remade five times for the UK, France, USA, Mexico, Estonia, Russia, Malaysia, Singapore, and Germany/Austria. Winner of two Golden Nymph Awards, “The Bridge” was created and written by Hans Rosenfeldt. The drama is produced by Filmlance in Sweden and Nimbus Film in Denmark, in co-production with ZDF, DR, SVT, and ZDF Enterprises who is also the global distributor.

 Launched in 2019, Topic, First Look Media’s flagship streaming service, offers North American premieres, exclusive and original programming from around the world. The title will serve as an addition to its slate of Summer thriller offerings. ““The Bridge” will keep our viewers on the edge of their seats with its superb storytelling and excellent casting," said Ryan Chanatry, General Manager of Topic. “We’re thrilled to be the North American home of such a cult hit and share this heart-stopping noir with our discerning audience.“
