Unifrance TV Export Awards winners
Gilles Pélisson, President of Unifrance, and Sarah Hemar, Director of Audiovisual, announced the winners of the 20th Unifrance TV Export Awards, recognizing the international appeal of French audiovisual creation in the fields of animation, documentary, and drama.
The Unifrance TV Export Award in Animation was for MIAM! distribution for "Edmond and Lucy" (52x12'), in Fiction to Newen Connect for "HIP"(Season 2 — 8x52’) and in Documentary, the prize was for ARTE Distribution for "The Latest Secrets of Hieroglyphs" (90'). ARTE Distribution Head of Sales & Marketing Joséphine Létang declared: “The team is very proud to win this price for the 5th time. A great thanks to the voters and international buyers for having chosen this very special film.”
"The Lastest Secrets Of Hieroglyphs" is an ambitious film directed by Patrick Cabouat and produced by BLEU KOBALT for France 5; an incredible scientific investigation to discover all the secrets of this mysterious and ancient writing through its creation and decryption. ARTE Distribution has sold the film to BBC4, NHK, Raï, SBS, Thirteen/WNET.
The Unifrance TV Export Awards recognize the best-selling French audiovisual programs worldwide. This year's nominees were Cyber Group Studios for "Gigantosaurus" (Season 2 — 52x11') and Millimages for "Molang" (Season 4 —52x5') in Animation; France tv distribution for "Apocalypse: The Fall of Hitler" (2x52’) and Terranoa for "Jurassic Cash" (52’) in Documentary and France tv distribution for "Vortex" (6x52’) and STUDIOCANAL for "Infiniti" (6x60’) in Fiction.
STRONG FRENCH CONTENT PRESENCE ON SVOD
UniFrance publishes its market indicator about the position of French works on SVOD platforms worldwide in 2023. French productions represented 4.0% of subscription video-on-demand platforms' catalogs. France thus remains the most-represented European and non-English-speaking production country on SVOD platforms. French productions accounted for 4.0% of the catalog of subscription video-on-demand platforms worldwide in July 2023, excluding France. In total, more than 5,900 distinct French works are present on SVOD platforms worldwide.
France is the fourth most represented production country on SVOD platforms worldwide in 2023. By comparison, American, British, and Indian productions account for 43.0%, 7.6% and 6.4% respectively of the catalogs on the platforms studied. France is thus the most-represented European and non-English-speaking production country on video-on-demand platforms.
Among the countries analyzed, Spain stands out as the leading territory in terms of the proportion of French works on SVOD platforms (6.5% of French works). With 5.5% and 5.4% respectively of French productions on SVOD platforms, Italy and Estonia complete the top three countries offering the highest proportion of French works online within their catalogs.
