International broadcaster Viasat World has signed a deal with its global content distribution partner ZDF Enterprises for a package of content to fuel its factual channel portfolio. Comprising of seven new titles at 18 hours, Viasat World has taken exclusive pay TV and VOD rights -including catch up and SVOD- for some high calibre factual programmes produced in the last 12 months, which will air on its Viasat History, Nature and Explore channels and SVOD services across Baltics, Scandinavia, CEE, and Russia & CIS.

Coming to Viasat History’s schedule in 2021 are: “Eternal Pompeii” (2019, Germany, 1x60’), “Auschwitz - One Day” (2020, Germany, 1x60’), “The Trojan Horse” (2020, Germany, 1x60’), and “Cold Case History” (2020, Germany & USA, 5x60’). Viasat Nature will feature the following titles: “Enchanted Mountains - In the Heart of Germany” (2019, Germany, 1x60’) and “The Return of the Bears” (2020, Germany, 1x60’). Lastly, joining Viasat Explore’s line up is “Construction Fails” (2020, Canada, 8x60’).

Viasat World and ZDF Enterprises have partnered for over 15 years, and the global content distribution company is one of the broadcaster’s biggest suppliers of factual programming, as well as providing drama shows for its Epic Drama channel.

“This unprecedented year has seen many people seeking out our factual channel portfolio across CEE, as they turn to fact-based documentary content in the midst of a lot of uncertainty in the world, as they spend more time at home. Channel performance for Viasat History, Viasat Nature and Viasat Explore has surpassed expectations, with the Spring lockdown bringing in new viewers who have stayed with us. This deal with ZDF Enterprises brings some fantastic new titles to our programming line-up for 2021 so we can continue to serve that loyal audience we’ve built with more compelling factual content,”  said Karin Heijink, SVP Channels, Marketing and Products at Viasat World.

Ralf Rueckauer, VP ZDFE.unscripted at ZDF Enterprises, added: “Viasat World’s factual channels and platforms are renowned as the destination for the latest top-quality programming in CEE. Viasat History, Nature and Explore are the natural home for these terrific titles which we are confident will be enjoyed by a growing audience”.
