Vision Plus Entertainment has struck a major deal with Astro for Up Studios’ hit animated property "Super BOOMi", who has acquired the exclusive rights to show the cartoon series on its TV and digital platforms, as well as lead on toy licensing and merchandising deals for the property in the territory.

The "Super BOOMi" TV series is set to premiere in Malaysia this week, airing on Astro Ceria and Astro AEC. Viewers in Malaysia can also stream the series anytime via the Astro GO and sooka apps. Adding to the excitement, "Super BOOMi" will make its first official mascot appearance at Astro’s Hello Putrajaya event on 6 December 2025, where the company will be unveiling its latest content offerings.

According to Putri Yasmin Megat Zaharuddin, Vice President of Astro's GenNext business: “At Astro, we are deeply committed to offering content that entertains and enriches our younger audiences. That’s why we’re thrilled to welcome a leading international animation series, 'Super BOOMi', as part of the Astro lineup, and introduce Malaysian viewers to this IP at our flagship Hello Putrajaya event, where families will have plenty of opportunities to engage with the brand. 'Super BOOMi' has already captured hearts across Asia, and we’re confident that this vibrant character and his imaginative world will inspire, entertain, and enrich young minds here in Malaysia.”

GLOBAL SUCCESS
This milestone deal follows Super BOOMi’s successful launch in Hong Kong on VIU TV this year, followed by Singapore’s Mediacorp acquiring new seasons and content for both "Super BOOMi" and Up Studios’ "Piggy" animated series.

"Super BOOMi" is the brainchild of award-winning author Trevor Lai, who is also the founder of Up Studios. It features BOOMi, an incredibly cute bear who is also a tech genius. The show was one of the first in Asia to prominently feature stories about computer coding and AI, inspiring kids to use technology as a creative tool to create virtual game worlds.

Created with investment from media giant Tencent Video, "Super BOOMi" stands as one of Asia’s longest-running cartoon series, amassing over 7 billion online views. The show has consistently dominated ratings on leading broadcasters in China, including CCTV-14 and Hunan TV, and the newest Season 8 is currently broadcast on the country’s largest children’s channel during the primetime hours.

Min Lim, Vision New Media’s CEO comments: “Astro is the perfect partner for Up Studios and Vision Plus Entertainment. Its huge reach and long-standing commitment to providing the best kids’ viewing experience, where children can learn, play and grow with confidence, makes it an ideal home for 'Super BOOMi'. When you add in its ability to develop brands in a meaningful way and engage directly with families at a range of major events such as its popular ‘Home of Kids’, there really was no other company for us to work with!”

Trevor Lai, founder of Up Studios adds: “This amazing new deal demonstrates just why we partnered with Vision Plus Entertainment for the region: We knew that Min and the team would find us the best possible TV and licensing opportunities in Malaysia and with Astro, they have helped ensure the 'Super BOOMi' universe is in good hands as we continue to grow across Southeast Asia. We look forward to bringing BOOMi to millions of new fans in this new phase of growth for the franchise.”
