HBO Max, the global streaming platform from Warner Bros. Discovery, will expand into Germany, Italy, Austria, Switzerland, Luxembourg and Liechtenstein on January 13, 2026. The launch marks a significant step in the service’s European strategy, bringing HBO Max and its signature storytelling to millions of new viewers in the region.
Already available in more than 100 markets, HBO Max offers a curated mix of premium series, blockbuster films, real-life stories and live sports. Audiences in these newly added countries will, for the first time, be able to stream content from HBO, Warner Bros. Pictures, Warner Bros. Television, the DC Universe and Max Originals in one unified platform via the HBO Max app.
The platform will feature major series including “The Pitt”, “IT: Welcome to Derry”, “House of the Dragon”, “The Last of Us”, “The White Lotus”, “Euphoria”, “Industry” and the French original “The Seduction”. Beginning January 19, viewers can also watch “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms”, set a century before the events of “Game of Thrones”.
The film offering includes “Superman”, “The Batman” and “Dune”, alongside the full “Harry Potter” franchise. Upcoming titles such as “Weapons” and “The Conjuring: Last Rites” will be added soon. The service will also feature classics like “Friends” and “The Big Bang Theory”, as well as animated favorites like “Rick and Morty”, documentaries and unscripted programming. Also, the subscribers will have access to live coverage of the Olympic Winter Games Milano Cortina 2026 from February 6–22. This marks the first time the Winter Games will be available to HBO Max audiences across every tier of the service.
A robust slate of local HBO Original productions from Germany and Italy has also been announced. German titles include “4 Blocks Zero”, a prequel to the award-winning gangster drama, and “Banksters”, a heist series based on a true story—both produced by W&B Television. A documentary from Beetz Brothers will explore the infamous theft of the “Big Maple Leaf” gold coin from Berlin’s Bode Museum. Additionally, Jantje Friese and Baran bo Odar of Dark Ways will produce a thriller in which the dark tales of “Struwwelpeter” come to life.
Italian productions include a drama retracing the 2011 murder of Melania Rea, starring Maria Esposito, examining the impact of the case on her family, community and the justice system. Premiering February 20 is Marco Bellocchio’s “Portobello”, starring Fabrizio Gifuni, portraying the wrongful accusation of TV host Enzo Tortora in the 1980s. Upcoming docuseries include “Gina Lollobrigida: Diva Contesa”, which explores the battle over the actress’s legacy, and “Saman”, detailing the murder of a young Pakistani woman who refused an arranged marriage.
In Germany, HBO Max will also offer a wide selection of acclaimed films through output deals with Leonine Studios and Constantin Film, as well as German productions from Warner Bros. Pictures. A curated selection of premieres from DCM and other partners will also be included. In Italy, the platform will exclusively feature “Nonostante”, directed by and starring Valerio Mastandrea, which opened the Orizzonti section at the 81st Venice Film Festival. Beginning in February, viewers can also watch “Squali”, Daniele Barbiero’s debut film starring Lorenzo Zurzolo and James Franco, presented at the 20th Rome Film Festival.
For year-round sports coverage, subscribers can add the Sports tier to access Eurosport’s programming, including every match of the Australian Open and Roland-Garros, more than 300 days of cycling such as full coverage of the Tour de France, and extensive winter sports seasons in Germany and Italy. Italian subscribers will also have access to FA Cup and UFC events.
JB Perrette, CEO and President of Global Streaming and Games at Warner Bros. Discovery, referred to the expansion: “We are thrilled to bring HBO Max and the stories that stick with you to new countries across Europe this January. With our strongest line-up of U.S. and local HBO series yet, blockbuster films, and the Olympic Winter Games, this is the perfect moment to make HBO Max available directly to subscribers. It has never been easier to enjoy the most talked-about series, hit movies, live sports, and extraordinary real-life stories," expressed.
