Voltage TV will welcome Sam Starbuck as Creative Director of Documentaries in October. “I worked with Sam a decade ago and have been watching her extraordinary documentary output since then," Sanjay Singhal, Chief Executive, Voltage TV, said. "The range and quality of her work is unrivalled. There’s a reason the best creatives want to work with her – she’s a precise and perfect fit for us as we’re expanding our factual slate and ambitions.”
At Voltage TV, which forms part of BBC Studios, Starbuck will oversee the slate of premium documentaries, including "Hunting Gary Glitter" for Netflix, and other unannounced series. Before accepting her new role, Starbuck worked for Dorothy St Pictures where she has been SVP of Documentaries. Her credits there include the eagerly anticipated Disney+ docuseries "Coleen Rooney: The Real Wagatha Story," upcoming Netflix documentary "The Devil on Trial," and the recently announced "Desperately Seeking Soulmate: Escaping Twin Flames Universe" for Amazon Prime Video.
The executive previously worked at Raw TV, where she was Executive Producer of five times Emmy-nominated, "The Tinder Swindler," which became Netflix’s most-watched documentary film to date upon its release in 2022. Her credits also include 4-part docuseries "Reframed: Marilyn Monroe," originally made for CNN and now available on BBC iPlayer, and Netflix feature documentary "Memories of a Murderer: The Nilsen Tapes."
Her career started at the BBC and spans over two decades and multiple genres, from documentary to specialist factual and dramadoc. As Executive Producer, Starbuck has delivered more than 100 hours of high-end documentary films, series and specials for US and UK broadcasters and streamers.
Voltage TV’s credits include newly-released 3-part documentary series, "The Fake Sheikh" for Amazon Prime Video telling the story of the infamous British undercover reporter, Mazher Mahmood; "The Hunt for Bin Laden" for Channel 4/Art; "DNA Journey" for ITV and Tempting Fortune for Channel 4/Roku. Forthcoming productions include the Netflix feature film "Scoop," a co-pro with scripted indie "The Lighthouse," on Newsnight’s 2019 interview with Prince Andrew starring Gillian Anderson, Billie Piper, Keeley Hawes and Rufus Sewell. “I’ve always been a huge admirer of Sanjay and his work,"Starbuck said. "This is a really exciting time to be joining Voltage to help expand their growing premium documentary slate.”
