Finite Films & TV and Shoni Productions have announced that writer Sophia Al-Maria ("Little Birds") has come on board the TV series "The Many Lives of Miss K" adapted from Jean-Noël Liaut’s extensively researched biography. The series will chronicle the extraordinary life of iconic fashion model and WWII secret agent Toto Koopman.

Expanding its scripted TV slate, Finite Films & TV will collaborate with Al-Maria to develop the series, highlighting Koopman’s trailblazing life. Amy Gardner, Founder and Executive Producer at Finite Films & TV, said: “The aim of this project is to delve into Toto Koopman’s complex and inspiring life and do it justice, and Sophia is someone we trust to bring this incredibly profound and unique story to life. We couldn’t be more excited to have her on board, and to be working with the amazing Shoni Productions team, who will be our partners in bringing this story to life.”

Born to a Dutch cavalry officer father and a half-Indonesian mother, Toto’s mixed heritage exposed her to discrimination and prejudice, shaping her worldview. Koopman arrived in Paris in the 1930s, becoming the first mixed-race model on the cover of French Vogue. Throughout her life, she challenged cultural norms, openly embracing her bisexuality and her relationships with high-profile socialites such as actress Tallulah Bankhead and media mogul Lord Beaverbrook.

The series will follow Toto’s transformation from model to wartime spy, depicting her perilous double life that led to her capture by fascists in 1941. Surviving the Nazi concentration camps, she later reinvented herself as an influential figure in the postwar art world.

"The Many Lives of Miss K" strengthens Finite Films & TV’s growing scripted slate of internationally driven projects, including the psychological horror "The Fears", from "Doctor Who" director Andrew Gunn, currently in development, and the upcoming drama "Ben & Lucy". The company recently announced it will co-produce the first English-language feature from director Anu Menon, "Two of Us", with Bright Pictures.
