Sunset Vinyl
Two Tinopolis group companies – UpStream Media and Sunset+Vine – have launched the new YouTube channel Sunset Vinyl, showcasing rare, digitally-restored music interviews and performances from the 1980s and 1990s. The channel, built around the legendary Music Box archive, breathes new life into thousands of hours of footage — including exclusive interviews with some of the biggest pop and rock icons of the era.
Originally broadcast on the influential 24-hour Music Box television channel, which reached an estimated 60 million viewers across Europe and Asia in the mid-1980s, much of this content has remained unseen for decades. The new initiative unlocks the cultural and commercial potential of the archive, introducing a new generation to a golden age of music television.
Among the iconic artists featured in the archive are legendary performers such as Mick Jagger, Whitney Houston, Iron Maiden, and Take That, whose interviews offer candid, often surprising insights into their careers at pivotal moments.
“We’re excited to bring these amazing, overlooked moments from the Music Box archive back into the spotlight,” said Joe Elliott, Head of UpStream Media. “It’s more than just nostalgia — it’s a glimpse into the culture of the past. And now, with the tools we have today, we can breathe new life into it for a whole new generation.”
All content has been digitally restored for high-definition, with improved audio and video quality that retains the charm and authenticity of the original broadcasts. The channel will also develop original programming over time, combining restored footage with contemporary commentary and collaborations with modern artists influenced by the era.
“We’re thrilled about this partnership and are actively seeking collaborations with other rights holders, archives, and content creators looking to unlock the value of their legacy content,” said Nick Rees, COO of UpStream Media. “Our goal is to preserve, enhance, and reimagine archival material for new platforms and audiences around the world.”
“This couldn't be more exciting for us. It's a real privilege to have access to this unique archive, and it's fantastic to be able to continue Music Box's legacy as Sunset Vinyl,” said Will Godsiff, Senior Digital Strategist at Sunset+Vine. “Our digital team is combining their storytelling expertise and passion for music to revamp this archive and support it with fun, original content.”
“Tinopolis is an eclectic media, content and technology group with a diverse portfolio of sport, current affairs, entertainment and factual companies," said Jennifer Roberts, Tinopolis Group CEO. "Collaborations like this which leverage our own IP through specialist group company expertise and innovation are particularly exciting as we pivot our skills, experience and technology for the developing media landscape."
