In its latest study about SVOD demand in Mexico, Parrot Analytics revealed which were the most outstanding series in the country during April using “demand expressions,” the global standard metric created by the company to represent the total demand expressed by the audience of a series within a market.

The demand reflects the desire, engagement, and viewership of television content and is weighted by importance; so a stream/download is a higher expression of demand than a “like” or a comment.

The list of most demanded titles by Mexican audiences in April 2020 was dominated by Spanish language titles. The number one series by far was the heist thriller “La Casa de Papel,” which released its fourth season on April 3. The Netflix’s show quickly became the most in-demand series in the entire world across all platforms immediately after new episodes were released. This global popularity carried over to Mexican audiences as well, who made it the most in-demand digital original for the month by a healthy margin, with 44.2% more demand than its closest runner up.

Despite the fact that Disney+ has yet to launch in Mexico, the second and third most demanded titles of the month were originals from the platform. “Star Wars: The Clone Wars” and “The Mandalorian” took the second and third place spots, respectively. “Star Wars: The Clone Wars” has been closing in on its series finale during the month of April, and moved up to second place from fifth place last month. “The Mandalorian,” on the other hand, is on a downward slide, having been in first place with Mexican audiences in March.

Rounding out the top 5 was the Netflix Original “Narcos,” which released its second season of “Narcos: Mexico” on February 13. While “Narcos” was the number two digital original in Mexico last month, the fact it still ranks this high more than a month after the release of new episodes is a testament to the show's enduring appeal with Mexican audiences.
