Annecy MIFA reschedules its 2026 event due to the G7 Summit in France

The change comes as a result of the French government’s recent decision to host the 2026 G7 Summit in the Haute-Savoie region—where Annecy is located—during the same week the festival was initially scheduled.

The Annecy International Animation Film Festival has announced a major change to its 2026 schedule. Originally set to take place from June 14 to 20, the festival will now be held from June 21 to 27. The Mifa (Marché international du film d’animation), one of the key industry events linked to the festival, will also shift accordingly and take place from June 23 to 26.

The change comes as a result of the French government’s recent decision to host the 2026 G7 Summit in the Haute-Savoie region—where Annecy is located—during the same week the festival was initially scheduled. The announcement, made by President Emmanuel Macron on June 17, just days after Annecy had presented its preliminary plans, prompted the festival’s organizers to reconsider the original timeline.

Hosting an international political event of this magnitude brings significant logistical implications. With world leaders, large delegations, and international press expected to attend the G7 Summit, regional infrastructure will be under heavy demand. Transportation systems, accommodation capacity, and public security resources would be heavily concentrated on the summit, creating unavoidable conflicts with the animation festival’s needs. In light of this, Annecy’s organizers have opted to delay the event by one week to ensure a smooth, safe, and high-quality experience for all participants—professionals, artists, students, and fans alike.

This adjustment will allow the festival to proceed without compromise, maintaining the standards that have made Annecy the leading global event for animation. The most recent edition saw a record-breaking 18,200 attendees from 118 countries, and organizers hope to surpass those numbers in 2026. With this proactive change, the festival remains firmly committed to offering an inclusive and vibrant space for creativity, networking, and celebration of the animated arts.
