The Nouvelles Vagues Biarritz International Film Festival confirms its first edition from June 28 to July 2 in Biarritz, France with a strong commitment with young people and their vision through a unique perspective – films featuring young people’s narratives, assessed by a jury of artists of under 35 and by an international jury of students from major film schools.

Nouvelles Vagues aims to highlight the next generation – their perspectives and their power, a place where the future is born. Young people embody the future being written today, and for the duration of the Festival, the present will be filtered through the future. Stories about characters aged 12 to 35 will be at the heart of the Festival’s program and industry events. The Award, given to the winners, is designed by the students of the Ecole Boulle.

With indoor and outdoor screenings, concerts, exhibitions on the Festival’s main theme, and meetings with guests of honor, the city of Biarritz will play host for five days to an unprecedented international cultural event and a collective, cheerful cinematic experience.

“I am thrilled to welcome the brand-new Nouvelles Vagues Biarritz International Film Festival that is in line with my own commitment to young people. The Festival is intended for both Biarritz residents and international film industry members – and welcoming Nouvelles Vagues is about embracing the possibilities opening up to us and supporting the film industry as we always have”, Maider Arosteguy, Mayor of Biarritz.

“Cinema – those who make it and those who star in it are windows on the world, who favor freedom, but who also encourage us to reinvent ourselves. Young people and the next generation provide a special perspective – it’s up to us to welcome them and help them get their voices heard. That’s why we created Nouvelles Vagues, a collective adventure whose commitment is to shine a light on young people and the next generation,” said Jérôme Pulis, Festival’s President & Founder.
