DISCOP Africa Fall 2020 will host “African Audiences Matter,” a four-part virtual conversation series to focus on concrete ways to remedy to the lack of a fair and reliable audience measurement system across Africa.

Public and commercial broadcasters deliver 80% of television audiences and their future hinges on integrating a universal audience measurement system that would substantially increase the value of airtime that is chronically underestimated and costs broadcasters $500 million in lost sales. This represents a $250 million shortfall for the funding of original content and the acquisition of finished content.

Produced in partnership with ABN Holdings Ltd, the “African Audiences Matter” series will feature four 90-minute interactive sessions led by key players representing broadcasters, producers, advertisers, and regulators.

“We will listen to their views and ideas on ways to rapidly provide a fair assessment of the size, value, and composition of 'brick and mortar' television audiences, and help them compete with satellite and online rivals,”  the organizers said.

The four-part “African Audiences Matter” virtual series will take place on Thursday 1, 8, 15, and 22 October, and start at 3 PM (Johannesburg-time).
