Johannes Larcher
RX France confirmed that the Head of HBO Max International, Johannes Larcher, will give a keynote address at MIPTV. Larcher, responsible for driving the international rollout and management of HBO Max, will take the stage at the International Spring TV Market with the WarnerMedia-owned streaming platform having recently launched in an additional 15 European countries, bringing the total to 61 territories worldwide since its launch in May 2020.
The global streaming platform, which brings together the world-renowned brands of Warner Bros., HBO, DC, Cartoon Network, Max Originals, and more, is planning to expand to a further six countries later in 2022, with an aspiration to be present in circa 190 territories by 2026. Staged in Cannes’ Palais des Festivals on the second day of the in-person market, the session will incorporate an address from and interview with Larcher, providing further insights into the streamer’s strategy and his take on his take on wider industry issues and trends.
This year, a new 3-day format for the market brings MIPFORMATS and MIPDoc into the heart of the main program, with premium high-end drama showcase MIPDrama again acting as a curtain-raiser on 3 April. Cannes will also play host to the fifth season of the international TV series Festival CANNESERIES (1-6 April). Johannes Larcher said: “HBO Max is carrying great momentum right now on the back of popular new titles, strong subscriber growth, and new market launches. I’m looking forward to attending MIPTV to talk about our strategy and the latest trends impacting the global entertainment industry.”
RX France Entertainment Division Director & Director of MIPTV, Lucy Smith, added: “We’re thrilled that Johannes will be addressing the market at such a key time in HBO Max’s rollout. He joins an exceptional lineup of leaders from studios, next-generation media companies, global production groups, filmmakers, and now global streaming platforms who will be sharing their insights at the Spring market.”
This week, HBO Max began streaming in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Hungary, Moldova, Montenegro, Netherlands, North Macedonia, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, and Slovenia. The service is set to launch in six further countries later this year, including Greece and Turkey. Distributors, studios, buyers, platforms, and producers, spanning more than 50 countries, have to date confirmed their presence in Cannes for the new-look annual MIPTV International Spring TV Market. These include, to date, over 120 companies set to exhibit within a reshaped layout in the Palais des Festivals.
