MIP Cancun announced that Billy Rovzar, Founder and CEO of Lemon Studios, Diego Ramírez Schrempp Executive Producer and Partner of Dynamo, and Natalia Echeverri, Executive Producer and Partner at Teletigre, will take part in a special production-led session as part of the keynote programme presented in association with TV Latina at this year’s international content and co-production market for Latin America and US Hispanic television. Titled “From The Source,” and moderated by TV Latina Editor Elizabeth Bowen-Tombari, the conversation with the creative executives will focus on the challenges, opportunities and health of the region’s production sector and the evolution of the showrunner role. It will be staged on November 20 at 16:45 in the Moon Palace Hotel.
Billy Rovzar founded Lemon Films with brother Fernando in 2004 since producing films such as Matando Cabos and Kilómetro 31. A venture into international production with NALA Films saw his reach extend beyond Mexico, and the transformation to Lemon Studios in 2018 reflected a diversification of work across television, film, theatre, and video games. Rovzar’s achievements include an International Emmy for Best Non-English U.S. Prime-time Production in 2017 for Sr. Ávila - the category’s first Mexican winner. Lemon Studios’ recent productions include Monarca and “Control Z” (Netflix), “Un Buen Divorcio” (ViX), and “Las Azules” (Apple TV+).
Diego Ramírez Schrempp has established himself as one of the most important producers in Colombia and Latin America. He was the executive producer of “Falco,” a series that won an International Emmy in 2019. Schrempp is the co-creator and showrunner of “Frontera verde,” one of the first Colombian original series on Netflix, and served as production supervisor on the globally acclaimed “Narcos.” In 2023, “La cabeza de Joaquín Murrieta” premiered on Prime Video, a production in which he was also co-creator and showrunner. Ramírez Schrempp is also the executive producer of “Cien años de soledad” for Netflix. He is currently working on new premium projects for Netflix, Amazon, Apple, and ViX, among others.
Natalia Echeverri co-founded production company Teletigre with director Jorge Duran to tell stories with an original perspective and a sharp sense of the present and past of Latin America, with the pair recently producing the documentary “Los Niños Perdidos” for Netflix. Echeverri’s recent credits as Executive Producer include this year’s “Secuestro del Vuelo 601” (Netflix), “Las Pelotaris” and “Marea Alta” (both ViX+) and Creator and Executive Producer on 2021’s “Malayerva” (STARZPLAY). She is currently completing the recently announced series “Delirio,” based on the novel by writer Laura Restrepo, for Netflix as Executive Producer.
“Having three such respected and prolific creative leaders on the same stage will be unmissable,” said María Pérez-Bellière, Director of MIP Cancun. “Hearing them unpack common trends and each give their own unique foresights on what is shaping the sector will be an invaluable masterclass for anyone involved in production.”
“It is a true pleasure to speak with Billy, Diego and Natalia, all internationally recognized leaders in Latin American production with an extensive portfolio of outstanding titles,” added Bowen-Tombari. “This keynote will offer audiences first-hand insight into the production landscape in the region, as well as various facets of the showrunner’s role.”
