RTVE returns to MIPCOM 2023, the world's largest gathering of television and media professionals, to present the season's main new releases. Great fiction series, children’s series, the best entertainment and great documentaries make up the Corporation's portfolio at Cannes. Among the main shows that RTVE is presenting are the prime time series 'Operación Barrio Inglés', the daily series 'Salón de té La Moderna', the international co-production 'Esto no es Suecia', the comedy '4 Estrellas', the second season of 'Ser o no Ser', the leading game show 'Grand Prix', and the new seasons of 'Los Pilares del Tiempo' and 'Un País Mágico', among others.
RTVE's international sales team, headed up by María Jesús Pérez, will pitching to executives from over 100 countries who will gather at the Palais des Festivals ’Operación Barrio Inglés', a thriller/drama set in Huelva in the 1940s against the backdrop of the Second World War. It stars Aria Bedmar, Peter Vives, Rubén Cortada, Paco Tous, Juan Gea and María Morales at the head of a large international cast.
Also coming to Cannes is 'Salón de té La Moderna', a recently premièred daily series that explores the weaving plot lines between employees and customers of a distinguished tea room in the 1930's Madrid. It is based on 'Tea Rooms', a novel by Luisa Carnés, one of the great writers of the Generation of 1927. It is joined by another daily series, ’4 Estrellas', a contemporary, romantic and family comedy, in which, as in life, everything happens at the worst possible moment.
The dramedy 'Esto no es Suecia’ explores the contradictions that a couple of young parents face when it comes to protecting their children from the dangers of life, telling a straightforward story of the hardships of motherhood and fatherhood. Created by Aina Clotet and Sergi Cameron, it is filmed in Catalan, Spanish, English and Swedish and is RTVE Play's first original fiction.
The second season of the youth series ‘Ser o no Ser’ delves into the emotional journey of the protagonist, a 16-year-old trans teenager who dreams of becoming a great actor. The first season received the Students Jury Special Prize at the Prix Italia 2022 and was nominated for Best Spanish-language series at the GLAAD Awards 2022, as well as receiving public and critical acclaim and having reached more than a dozen countries such as the United States, the United Kingdom, Israel and Argentina, among others.
"El Grand Prix" returns
After this summer's huge ratings success, the Corporation is also taking to Cannes "El Grand Prix", presented by Ramón García, who has returned after 18 years, maintaining the essence that won over the audience in a return full of novelties, with Cristinini, Michelle Calvó and Wilbur. The quintessential summer TV classic, in which two towns from different parts of Spain face off to have fun and involve all the families in their homes, achieved a 19.4% share and 1,689,000 viewers, beating the average of its last edition on La 1 in the summer of 2005 by 1.9 points.
RTVE also presents the new seasons of ‘Los Pilares del Tiempo’, a documentary series that takes a radiographic look at Spain's most impressive monuments, and 'Un País Mágico’, a programme that discovers the most special heritage, traditions, legends and customs of our towns and cities through magic.
The best entertainment and great documentaries are part of the Corporation's portfolio at Cannes, along with content such as the family series ‘Los Argonautas’, in which a gang of friends from different realities and cultures have a summer full of adventures and make two great discoveries: a treasure and the value of friendship.
