MIPCOM Cannes Diversify TV Awards winners announced

The Diversify TV Awards are organized by MIPCOM CANNES in collaboration with Founding Partner Diversify TV and in association with Founding Presenting Partner A+E Media Group. Nine awards were presented following submissions from 29 countries and with nominees hailing from 11 countries.

MIPCOM Cannes announced the winners for the 2024 MIPCOM Cannes Diversify TV Awards, the industry’s only awards to recognize the promotion of Diversity and Inclusion in television internationally. The Diversify TV Awards are organized by MIPCOM CANNES in collaboration with Founding Partner Diversify TV and in association with Founding Presenting Partner A+E Media Group. Nine awards were presented following submissions from 29 countries and with nominees hailing from 11 countries.

The ceremony was again hosted by journalist, broadcaster, professional moderator, and co-founder of the diverse moderators' bureau "Moderate The Panel," Femi Oke; with actor, broadcaster, and disability advocate Adam Pearson, and performer, singer, TV host, advocate, and drag icon Nicky Doll, joining Oke as presenters. For 2024, awards partners include Telefilm Canada, Canada Media Fund, Webedia, and supporting partner All3Media International, among other partner companies and organizations. Finalists were shortlisted by MIP Markets’ Diversity Advisory Board members and a Special Jury of Industry Experts and Advocacy organizations committed to diversity and inclusion in the global media landscape and everywhere.

In terms of Representation of Disability – Non-Scripted, the award goes to "Gigantene (The Giants)" from Norway. The original broadcaster is NRK, with NRK as the distributor and Teddy TV as the production company. On the other hand, for Representation of Disability – Scripted, the winner is "One Of Us S2" from France. This series aired on TF1, with Federation International as the distributor and production companies Fédération Studios & Habanita Fédération.

Regarding Representation of LGBTQIA+ - Non-Scripted, the award was presented to "Y a une étoile (There's a star)" from Canada. The original broadcaster is UNIS TV, and it is distributed by FilmOption International inc, produced by Bellefeuille Production. In the case of Representation of LGBTQIA+ - Scripted, the winner is "Lost Boys & Fairies" from the United Kingdom. The original broadcaster is BBC, and it is distributed by All3Media, with Duck Soup Films as the production company.

With respect to Representation of Race and Ethnicity - Non-Scripted, the award goes to "White Nanny Black Child" from the United Kingdom. This program aired on Channel 5 and is distributed by Together Films, produced by Doc Hearts Limited & Tigerlily Productions. As for Representation of Race and Ethnicity - Scripted, the winner is "Three Little Birds" from the United Kingdom. The original broadcasters are ITV & Britbox, with Banijay Rights as the distributor and Tiger Aspect Productions in association with Douglas Road Productions as the production companies.

In the category of Representation of Diversity in Kids Programming – Older Children, the award was presented to "Windcatcher" from Australia. The original broadcaster is Stan, and it is distributed by the Australian Children's Television Foundation, produced by Unless Pictures & Every Cloud Productions. Concerning Representation of Diversity in Kids Programming - Pre-School, the winner in this category is "Wordsville" from Canada. The original broadcasters are TVOkids & PBS Thirteen, distributed by Sinking Ship Entertainment, which is also the production company.

Finally, for the Behind the Scenes Impact Award, this special recognition award was presented to Banijay Entertainment for its Banijay Launch initiative – a global accelerator program that discovers and empowers emerging female creators, pairing them with Banijay Entertainment’s global network of creatives with the aim of helping them develop bold new formats from concept to sale.
